Feminism:
Feminist critics are not saying women are better than men, but they are saying men and women should be equal. Feminist criticism, like feminism itself, is concerned of course with the status of women (Lynn 221). Feminist criticism is concerned with stereotypical representations of women. Tyson states, “by patriarchal women I mean, of course, a woman who has internalized the norms and values of patriarchy, which can be defined, in short, as any culture that privileges men by promoting traditional gender roles.” He then goes on to say, “traditional gender roles cast men as rational, strong, protective, and decisive; they cast women as emotional (irrational), weak, nurturing, and submissive” (Tyson).

what feminism is not:
Many think feminism is not an issue in America today because women can vote, and they can go to school just like men, but feminism still needs to be a major topic in discussion. Women are still getting paid less to do the same jobs as men. Think progress states, "Women on average make only 77 cents to every dollar earned by men. Some of that wage gap is the result of women being more likely to to in certain industries or occupations, but about 40 percent of the difference in men's and women's wages cannot be explained by any measurable factor" (Glynn). Women are still getting raped, and women are still being victimized. Many teens and adults alike are taking to a Tumblr page to address why they need feminism. Women are seen as small and frail, and men are seen as big and strong and should be there to take care women. Women should not be scared to walk down a street at night for fear of being sexually assaulted. Women should not be exploited for their bodies. Men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. Women should not be scared for their safety.
